Paraplegic paddling

The back seat unscrews and a simple bracket is attached to the seat attachment ridge.

The U bracket would let the support rod fall out should the boat capsise

The fibreglass of the boat is protected with dense rubber pads.

The seat can be slid from one side to the other
and is held in position by two clamps on the cross-bar.

It would be good to swop sides halfway through a session
to reduce the possibility of back spasms.

Apart from the fact that she is squinting into the setting sun, Heidi already felt so much more secure she could visualise managing without a belt, even though everything is very much in the rough planning phase. With padding and a side panel to hold her legs, her position is vastly improved.

We have already had interest from one of the coaches of the Montie Dragons who have a young girl who will probably follow Heidi's brave lead!

The double legs on the front fit over the bar and can be adjusted for height. (Blocks of wood were used here to test the height)

To keep costs down, a mass produced fibreglass wheelchair bucket is used. This can be cut down and custom padded.

The seat needs to be tilted back at quite an angle to give a feeling of security.
